Hello!

1. Opinion is divided: the protesters would argue pro Taravast's isolationist approach. They've done just fine minding their own business for centuries. The undead have not reached them. Why fix what's broken?

But Taravast currently relies on exchanging tutelage and magic for the military back-up of neighbouring citadels. It's equally fairly dependent on trade. Macaluso believes strongly that marriage into one of the foreign royal houses would give the latter skin in the Taravast game.

As for whether Odile in particular would be good for Macaluso/Taravast: perhaps more/less than others. She can provide ample resources. But she is timid, plain-faced, clearly unimaginative enough that she needs foreigners pitching her offerings.

2. Characters in Vannozza's employment would not know about the poisoning ahead of time. After, they will find that Vannoza's allies are commenting on the event — some with malicious glee that Macaluso has lost face so publicly — but not indicating they knew anything themselves. Whether Vannozza herself was aware is up for debate.

3. Sorry, bear with me: which prospect are you referring to? The poisoning being a surprise?
