El sadly lacks proficiency in any other weapon besides swords (and shields) otherwise he'd be coveting that bow so broadsword it is unless something else truly called to him.

An actual spirit would be very interesting I think. Not something he's contended with before, and could lead to interesting broadened cr. Not sure about curses? I'd be worried he wouldn't want to keep it if it feels too dark/cursed
