Right you are, Bonnie and Rule 63!Clyde —

You get to guard this beautiful abode:

Merchant Yonsan is a lover of antiques, with an especial interest in pressed flowers, vases and the shelved skulls of alleged renown beauties. As evening draws, Hermione and Wen Qing can observe two of the lingering house servants come in to dust, oil, braid or comb the wig hair of these skulls.

...again and again and again. The master, an ugly man by any standard, is fond of his collection and his single chance at partaking of such spectacular beauty, they say.

Some of the shelves have open spots where the collector has only written down names for expected or yet-purchased skulls — Hermione and Wen Qing can find waiting spots for Janseum, Hanu, Anui and Wul-qiang.

The collector pays Hermione and Wen Qing 10,000 coins for three days' watch service, while he travels on business to recover more items for his menagerie. He also kindly offers 2,000 coins for all of Wen Qing's hair.

THE WATCH

Nothing notable happens on days 1 and 3 of the watch, beyond the typical eerie experience of spending quality time with clearly beloved skulls. But on night 2, around 3am, Hermione and Wen Qing can hear thrashing and sounds of a crash in the back-end room that faces the forest. Travelling the corridor, they find the old maid of the house collapsed on the floor and barely breathing, showing signs of strangulation by a thick coil — please save her, she's still got a few creaky years left!

If they arrive in the back room, they find the highly locked window has been broken into, and they can see the retreating, slithering dark tail of something large, scaly and serpentine. It dashes into the forest, having utterly trashed the room, but not yet stolen anything. It leaves behind dust hailing from dark, volcanic rock residue — which locals reveal is native to either the dormant Ke-Sanwon volcano or to the nearer-by fortune fetters.
