They have access to a Forge, I'm thinking, so they could do the brute labour, and then magic it, if you want to give Irenia something with filigree or pretty... colours.

I'm not going to be nitpicky about it, do what you gotta do. You can definitely also get the other magic users (Hermione, Emilia, Wanda, etc) to help for the long-term solution.
