clue wrap | serthica 1.0
Hey guys! Ahead of Ye Olde Unwinding event, click below for a short, non-comprehensivewrap of big-ticket clues discovered so far, to help sleuth-minded folks who’re catching up. Best effort has been made to link to relevant posts, if you want to tag in, or to list a point person for findings, if you want your character to touch base. Clicky-click on the headers for the appropriate lists!→ STATUS QUO | “THE COAL SICK”
✘ Reactions to the ‘coal sick’ splintered Serthica into the Conclave’s mysophobia-prone and droid-loving Minaras and King Thivar’s more relaxed, dragon-saddled Eidris.
✘ The two citadel halves went to civil war in wake of the 'coal sick,' but struck a tentative truce.
✘ Snobbish Minaras and Eidris believe the 'coal sick' originated from the impoverished criminal underworld of the Mouse House they can both access.
✘ The two citadel halves take turns sinking underground: Eidris is overground during 6:00-18:00, Minaras during 18:00-6:00. They’re bound by Neutral Zone bridges during 6:00-7:00 and 18:00-19:00.
✘ Everything in Serthica feels alive to necromancers and the magically sensitive, including dead bodies.
✘ Both people of Minaras and of Eidris ‘glitched’ and behaved inhumanely when lights briefly went out during a Neutral Zone trade summit.
✘ Some of the bodies in local morgues show signs of internal rot and sickness (Kaneki Ken.)
✘ Eidris and Minaras accuse each other of 'not being human.' The Merchant suspects at least one is undead.→ EIDRIS | THE DRAGONS
✘ Recently, the Minaras ship RELINT harmed the dragon Ariste, before crash-landing in the Sibilant Sands wasteland outside of Serthica.
✘ A flight party led by dragon lord Cain d’Ubiq uncovered the Relint is an old Aerial Healing Unit that preceded Serthica’s separation. It was manned by burlap mannequins with paintings of animals on their faces. There was black water at their feet. (Gulliver’s Travels plot roll)
✘ The new hatchlings of dragon Aiva feel fully dead. (Wei Wuxian)
✘ Serthica was overcome by drought five years ago, before it splintered. This was relieved by a flooding of “filthy water”. (Chu Wanning)
✘ Sometimes, dragons go "listless," "unresponsive" and "roaming" for bizarre interludes of time (Sylvain)
✘ Bones have surfaced in the Sibilant Sants — presumably the dead of the Minaras-Eidris conflict. (Mo Ran) → MINARAS | THE DROIDS
✘ She also sent a bouquet with a catchphrase that, once uttered, saw her devolve into frantic and violent behaviour and make a guttural “Ke-ke-ke>” sound. She later forgot the incident. ( Wrath, Emilia).
✘ The ‘coal sick’ plague has resurfaced, after Bones contacted it during a technical outage in Minaras (Bones McCoy.)
✘ Sometimes, droids do not seem to recognise their masters. (Anduin).
✘ Minaras believes their watch ships are being attacked by dragon flames, but refuse to break peace and accuse Eidris (River).
✘ The infrastructure of Minaras is slowly deteriorating from lack of maintenance, leading to light and technical outages. During this, some residents regress to weeping and point strangers to their bed. Much of Minaras curiously runs on the cheap lubricants of the Mouse House. ( Lights Out plot roll.)→ REMEMBRANCE
✘ Chrichter is a highly volatile individual.
✘ Remembrance have their headquarters within the Mouse House. It includes a permanently locked room from which screams, blood and dark water sometimes ooze out.
✘ Finn and Jim Kirk opened the room with the key sent to Minaras councillor Arabella. They found a large burlap mannequin that feels alive and can intermittently interact, along with a music box whose tune devolves into “Up the mountain, in the grove, hand in hand to Ke-ke-ke —” (Finn, Jim).
✘ A second inspection revealed the room has a corridor behind its walls, filled with human-sized burlap mannequins. They come alive and gain human likeness, after drenching in dark water. (Wrath, Fei, Magnus, Xiao Xingchen)
✘ The mannequins have dog tags with strange catchphrases. They were unintentionally released.
The Unwinding will go up on either 23 or 24 September — it will double as a test drive, so it shouldn’t require pre-planning. Much of the events will touch fantasy creepiness, shifting realities and, inevitably, a dragon-ship chase.
The Unwinding will be more about CR building in a tight spot, but you’ll still be able to hunt clues and you’ll be able to pursue your own investigations, if you prefer that. Feel free to plot/plan/whatnot in the comments.
Applications should otherwise open over 8-14 October. Test drive participants can apply without an invite.
Hop on for any questions or conspiracy theories & thanks!
