THEIR ONE-SENTENCE ELEVATOR PITCH: Workaholic public defender discovers she has a thing for scamming and it's led her to a place that challenges the values she used to pride herself on.

A PET PEEVE THAT GETS THEIR TEETH GRITTING: Typos, loud conversations in public, clutter, when people move her post-it notes, when the pillow is put into a pillow-case with the tag side out and the end isn't tucked in... look, she's a little bit anal-retentive, okay?

WHAT SPARKS THEIR JOY: Classic cinema, with a preference for survival-horror along the lines of The Thing and Ice Station Zebra, as well as crime dramas. She likes double-crossings and adventures and people bonding over dangerous situations. (Yes, it is different when it's on screen.) Also, mix up a Moscow Mule, she loves that.

WHAT ARE THEY UP TO? Currently getting her bearings, snooping around what the locals are up to and how they live, and figuring out how to acquire shoes that are more practical than her 3" stilettos :'(

CR/SCENARIOS YOU WANT:
- Getting Kim more acquainted with magic/powers; she comes from a normal earth and isn't generally interested in fiction including them, so I think it'd be good for her to have some fun positive experiences with it so she doesn't come away from it thinking it's all bad.
- ... but negative is also fun too. I'm not sure how much conflict there is within the group or if the crew is pretty settled in banding together to get to the ultimate goal, but Kim might have some friction with people who have mind control powers or abilities that they otherwise employ to use or abuse other people. (No matter what the intention.)
- Adjusting is going to be hard for her (and fun for me) because she is so normal, but I'd love for her to have opportunities to prove herself to be useful on an information/negotiation/
- She's here with her husband, Jimmy McGill; he's usually the only one who gets to see the Fun side of Kim, as she tends towards being extremely straight-laced and sometimes a little superficial with people. People are welcome to notice the difference between the Kim they get and the Kim they might see interacting with Jimmy. (Rest assured it is EXTREMELY fucking weird to her to be in close/shared quarters with like 50 strangers in an orphanage given how opposed she is to PDA. Also how is she supposed to maintain a highly polished appearance in this environment!! Struggle!!)
- Kim will often just let or encourage people to talk and talk and talk about themselves and their feelings and their business and stuff without sharing much in return. She's also not used to people asking her about herself because she doesn't have friends she spends most of her time in professional environments where that's not appropriate anyway. Nosy people welcome :)
- She smokes, she wants more cigarettes.
- Her custom intro included snooping in Gavroche's mail... a thing she's definitely told her husband about, but wouldn't be inclined to share to the group at large because, well, it makes her look bad. I've gotta brainstorm how this could come up with someone so she can get that information out.
- I have no idea what else yet, I'm still getting a feel for all this.

Ooh, I'd be interested in hearing! Kim is very new to scamming (and admittedly mostly into it because her husband is) but she could get swept up into participating in if it sounded like a good advantage.

So obviously we'd need to devise a way to get them onto the topic, and the caveat being I don't know.... the state of the city once they return for the event and when or if they'd be able to pull it off.

But the PLAN is to play Minaras and Eidris off each other over donating to the Mouse House and the poor there. Neither pay it any attention rn (both are in 'oh its so sad if only SOMEONE would do SOMETHING' mode), so Wrathion suggested to the Doctor, who is working with some Eidris-side folks already, that they essentially start telling both sides the other is going to donate Big Money. That they'll look BAD and it will be EMBARASSING if they let their rival half of the city handle it, so they should too!

Wrathion's cover is 'investor', so he already has plenty of rich contacts, he just needs fellow people to hitch onto the scam and begin spreading variations of this story with him convincingly until someone breaks and donates. At which point, the scam gains weight because people are donating, so others need to donate too so they don't look bad, etc etc!

Kim's a bit of an information-gatherer so as soon as the city situation is sorted out, I'm sure she'll have questions at the very least to get them talking. She could really, really vibe with that plan, though; it's very much her jam to convince rich people to part with their money, and she'd be more than happy to schmooze to get that done. (She canonically convinces a guy to invest $10,000 in her fake company over drinks at a bar for a few hours, so these guys won't know what hit 'em.)

Or they can meet during the event ofc!

Absolutely, I'd love for them to meet! She has very complicated feelings about playing the system, but she definitely does do it, often more than she'd like to. We'll find a good spot for them to link up.

Our TDM thread only makes me want more with them now that we're in the meat of the game! She got a good feel for Kim, and Clara's pretty sure there's potential for a 'not up for a lot of bullshit' friend.

And yes, I think they'd get along well long-term! Kim's definitely very willing to just say when she thinks something's nonsense or a bad call, but she could always use a friend who is candid overall :')

If you need a clairvoyant to help get that info about Gavroche's mail out, I have one to offer! Though that may feel forced, so definitely up to you.

Vi (faceblocker) could also be an interesting foil, but would not even know how to exist around lawyers. She has probably never seen one before.

HAHAHA Kim is so tightly wound I don't think she'd partake in weed outside of very specific scenarios (generally just with Jimmy), especially because she's from 2004, where weed was so much more of a boogeyman. Alcohol, though, she'd love to. All this shit is wild.

When you say clairvoyant, how does that work with Vanessa? Kim would have a pretty negative reaction if it was pulled out of her without her consent/agency, which I'm totally not opposed to OOC, but Kim holds grudges 5ever so it would probably be a long road to her relaxing again.

And hahaha, Vi would throw her for such a loop, I don't think Kim has ever known anyone quite like her, but if she found out some stuff about Vi's background, she might be endeared –– she does Public Defender work, she's known her fair share of troubled younger people in tough situations!

Here is a link to more about that ability, and a permissions post if you ever want to play with that, but I never do magic stuff without permission! Her medium powers are actually rarely invited by her, unless invited to by someone (like with her Tarot, or under duress) and it's not uncommon for her to fail when attempting to divine things. Usually, she'll get visions when she's just trying to mind her own damn business, and it's very inconvenient.

It's usually not mundane events, though, so if it did happen then it would probably need to be connected to a strong emotion or powerful moment. So even if you don't use it here, it's an option for anything in the future if you have a desire! I don't mind someone being put off by Vanessa at all. It's uncertain if she would even reveal anything she learned, anyway, so it may be less useful here.

Please explain being a Public Defender to Vi, that is such a particular label. She assumes it is ironic, like everything in life.

I don't know this canon, but I read this and laughed because I have River Song, who thrives on chaos, and I've just added Sarah Bishop, who does not care what anyone thinks ever.

If she cares to be dragged out of her comfort zone in the future, I'm sure River could happily do that.

But more relevant to your actual requests, Sarah is a witch of a more traditional variety, so spells and potions and charms. And plants! She's particularly talented at healing, but she also has a good understanding of magic from her world and its architecture and function.
