I am not familiar with the canon I'm afraid, but "trying to be reasonable" seems to be about where the bar is set around here.

After all, we were specifically asked not to break time. We can say we tried to listen ... time got broken anyway. /shrug/

It's a good bar to set for a crazy story protag I suspect so kudos to all of them for having set it.
