THE TITHE | ARC III FINALE

Hello, good people! It’s all about to go down with a Boom on 18 May during the log finale of Arc III.

■ After wrapping up Arc III, the party will enjoy a plot-light(er) ‘journey’ segment totalling four-six weeks, then head into Arc IV.

■ An out-of-character vote will go up over the next few days, so you can choose between two destination options for Arc IV.

■ Our next test drive meme takes place in early June.

For now, a brief idea of what to expect in the Arc III finale log below, so you can plot & plan your moves ahead.

THE TITHE

Catch-up: desperate villagers are revisiting human sacrifices in hopes of swaying the Ke-Sanwon volcano’s eruption. The rites were stalled for a few years, during which a traveller’s cure for droughts was purchased with tributes collected by the undead Beastmaster. The witches of the Fetters gained their power and animal hybrids began to roam around this time. Wrath and Emilia discovered the volcano contains magical energy and tormented spirits that have been capped by a fracturing dark mirror. The group stole keys to enter the House of Ravens sacrificial temple — which now opens for the eruption.

In family drama, it emerges the Beastmaster was once married to the Huntress (formerly Anui), who offered their son to Ke-Sanwon without his father’s say. The child disappeared. Both parents hope to find him in the House. Wrathion, Daenerys and Viktor have all will be sharing juicy details by 18 May, once NPC threads wrap up.

THIS HOUSE IS YOUR HOUSE

The party must infiltrate the House of Ravens overnight and wait until dawns, when the temple dais slowly opens to reveal the mouth of the volcano.

■ Those who enter the House are fully or partially depowered and have their ancestral curse immediately lifted.

■ In the midnight to dawns period, characters are supernaturally tempted to act on their greatest individual sin.

■ They are chased by the temple’s… unusually large defenders, if they succumb to these instincts. Good luck til dawns, folks.

LET THERE BE BLOOD

The cultists of Ke-Waicai greet dawns by exposing their first chosen sacrifice to Ke-Sanwon, showcasing exactly what happens to their ‘Chosen.’ Roughly two hundred villagers attend the rites, along with eight powerful priests who use elemental magic.

In good (?) news: seeking his missing son, the Beastmaster bring his xenomorphic creatures to attack the House of Ravens.

Characters should:

■ Dress up, join the crowd and free the remaining tributes during the beastly skirmish.

■ Take control of the House’s dais by defeating or killing the priests.

! Characters can remain partially or fully depowered throughout, if you prefer.

FIRE AND BRIMSTONE?

The dais remains under the party’s control as long as a character (literally) shoulders the head priest’s ancient white raven and holds its leash.

■ Whoever carries the raven becomes the target of the village mob and of the Beastmaster’s creatures.

■ The raven should be passed around. Defend the bird’s current holder and throw off their pursuers.

■ If the bird dies, the dais closes, and the volcano erupts. No pressure.

For those looking to stop the eruption, options include but are not limited to:

■ Throwing more dark water into the volcano to fix the mirror crack.

■ Using ice / cold magic and scientific processes to cool down the volcano’s warmth and help the mirror regenerate itself.

■ Exorcising some of the spirits within the volcano.

■ Absorbing some of the magical power contained by the volcano. IMPORTANTLY, this can lead to substantial or permanent effects for your character, detailed here.

■ Persuading and guiding sane villagers to bring sea water. Helpful tips: remember those cool phoenix rides and the very fast Ke-Waiar werewolves.

■ PLOT HOW TO TACKLE THE VOLCANO. You can come up with your own solution. Calming Ke-Sanwon is a huge enterprise, so the more help, the better.

THE BEASTMASTER

Group up and pitch a plan, if you want to slay the Beastmaster.

He will drive his animal to raid the House of Ravens and devolve into a fury when he does not locate his son. Grief renders him vulnerable and unpredictably violent. He is also significantly less powerful in the House of Ravens.


WILL SOMEONE THINK OF THE CIVILIANS?

Beyond the House of Ravens, villagers need help safeguarding their possessions or preparing to evacuate aboard incoming ships. The gradual spread of Ke-Sanwon’s seeping magic will infect some villagers, leading to animal hybridization in the farmers’ ranks — stay safe.

Whoever stays in the villages can also coordinate water and supply deliveries with those at the House of Ravens.


UPDATES & DROPS

The Arc III beacon will briefly open, allowing characters to head home before sadly faltering. All characters dropped or AC swept in May will be said to have safely gone home through the beacon.

COMMENT HERE if you want a canon update for your character. They will briefly go to their home world, then return when the beacon fails. Characters do not retain memories, items or powers gained in game while they are in their home worlds, but they recover them on return.

So.... Xie Lian still has that braid of Anurr that he's been carrying around. So he will come up with that superb idea that maybe it caries some of his ice power and maybe if he throws it into the volcano that will help. Somehow.

So I guess my question is will it help at all, or does he just get to watch that braid of hair burn and stink up the place for nothing?

So I feel like Wrathion would consider offering to take on volcano magic because.... Black Dragons live in Volcanos? He'd expect to feel itchy and weird and all but he wouldn't (ICly) expect the volcano bit to be a problem. It's what I was considering before this post went up.

So just to check I understand--

Since he has existing fire magic, I can choose (IF RNGd of course) to EITHER make his fire magic volatile OR his existing powers stay fine but he becomes Extremely Fucking Haunted?

Does heading into the volcano to absorb the magic need to be intentional? This is more for flavor/plotting purposes versus it being a dealbreaker if it does.

MAGICAL ABSORPTION - THE VOLCANO EDITION

Respond here by 16 May if you want your character to absorb some of the magical power that’s been festering brewing withing the Ke-Sanwon volcano for the past few years. This will help relieve the (literal) pressure on the dark mirror, but comes at a not insubstantial cost for your character.

A couple of things to bear in mind, if you want your character to take this route:

■ They will need to be submerged a few metres into the volcano. They will not touch lava or the magical flow, but they will be heavily exposed to the elements (particularly heat). Apply sunscreen generously.

■ Consuming this magic will give your character one of two side-effects: highly volatile magical abilities over fire (summoning or manipulating flames) that can be grown over time, or awareness of the dead and the ability to sometimes hear the dead in places where a great deal of death occurred or where hauntings took place. You can only choose one side-effect ability.

■ Characters with pre-existing death or fire magic can only choose to have these abilities boosted.

■ The abilities will be accompanied by a rare feeling of high itching and burning (that does not manifest physically) and by occasional nightmares of the pains of the past sacrificial tributes. The tempers of those who absorb the magic will sometimes sour inexplicably, and they will feel violently angry if human sacrifice is ever brought up to them.

■ Gaining these abilities will highly (but not completely ) disrupt any other magical abilities your character already possesses, unless your character already utilises fire sorcery or necromancy. In that case, these powers will act as a very volatile booster for the character’s existing magic (but only if you have a fire user develop a fire talent, and a necromancer a death-linked ability).

■ These abilities will recede over a three-month period, dwindling down to nothing as the person who absorbed the magic effectively “metabolizes” it.

■ Your characters will read as 'unclean' and 'death-touched' to all magic users (including NPCs and other magicians) for the three-month duration. They are effectively dark sorcerers in that period. You magically reek.

Anyone want to try and freeze the inside of a volcano for as long as possible with magic? It's a rudimentary plan at best, and it's probably not going to hold it at bay for very long, but someone's got to do it.

Okay, so... Xie Lian hasn't punched anything in a while, and even depowered, he is is, in fact a super good martial artist and especially good with a sword. And while he does tend to be sympathetic to undead people, he also does not condone them running unchecked, so he can both keep the Beastmaster occupied by fighting him, and/or give the fatal blow if someone will lend him a sword.

WHERE THEY'RE SPENDING THE FINALE: See answer below but he's probably going to be spending his time equal parts trying to help in the village and up the mountain in the House of Ravens, because he can't not try to save everyone he can

ANY PLANS: Anduin has been trying to solve the cure of the dark waters but it has thus far been a losing battle. The true fight is with the volcano itself, stopping the eruption, and he isn't certain that he can, not with the limited resources he has to hand. Anduin's focus is going to be on the villagers themselves, and the tributes. As I've said before and will save again, if he could save everyone, he would. Literally. Everyone. Pair this with the dawning of his own individual sin, which is Envy: Characters become increasingly self-aware of their own fallacies and cripplingly paranoid that they will fall short. Basically, Anduin's life is about to be super miserable!!!

He is no stranger to this awful feeling though so I'm thinking that Anduin might rally the delivery of water and supplies to the House of Ravens? And also facilitate in helping to get the tributes the hell off the mountain. Phoenix rides were suggested in the post itself and this could be fun, the flaming cavalry literally swooping in? He's ridden on gryphon's before, surely phoenixes aren't THAT much different. Right...???

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING? As stated above I'm thinking of having Anduin organize water transport/tribute rescue, possibly with phoenix riding thrown into the mix for some extra heroics. He'd be happy to have help with this and/or help get people up the mountain fast?

ALSO when all of this seems under control, he'd probably start herding people to safety on the ships, Just In Case. Likely with some sort of escape plan for them to get Zenobius out of there as well, just in case the whole thing goes to pot.

PASS THE BIRB: Lan Wangji is best on his feet, sword in hand, so I actually think he'd be more useful protecting someone who's carrying the raven. Need a bodyguard?

THE VOLCANO BOOMBOX: Lan Wangji has a... bit of an unfortunate history with volcano-like abysses, so he'll be significantly less composed and more carelessly prone to bloodletting than usual. Throughout, he's here to help rescue tributes, or if anyone needs a hand staying safe at the volcano rim, whether by delivering water/magical goods, or helping... pick up/keep watch over anyone keen to absorb the magic.

EXORCISM, THO: ...needless to say, if you're absorbing the volcano magic and want someone to play you a very nice and definitely not repetitive magical tune to help your senses, give him a call. He might, ah, also just 'volunteer' it. Shamelessly.

WHERE THEY’RE SPENDING THE FINALE: I have not made hard and fast decisions yet but here's some of the things that have intrigued me:

Going into the volcano to absorb some of the magic

Helping play keepaway with the raven

Possibly using her literal powers of persuasion to help bring in water from the sea

Fighting off some of the Beastmaster's minions while depowered as she is trained in combat so she can still do some damage

Obviously making choices and timing might limit my options but these are the areas where I think she could be the most useful. Also if anyone needs her for a plan in motion please let me know, I'd be happy to slide her in.

ANY PLANS: I'm considering an (extremely) brief canon bump to the true end of S2 in preparation for S3 if any Sparrows might happen to come out of the woodwork. It's literally all of five minutes, but it might be helpful? Haven't come to a consensus on it yet, but someone should tell them about Alive Ben.

Taxi/delivery service combo! Wrathion will not shapechange publicly, so if you don't know he's a dragon this'll just big a big ole dragon out of nowhere suddenly flying around.

Fair game both ways to either NOT work out it's him if you want to enjoy extending the mystery, or to work it out.

Reasons not to:

i) It's a dragon why would the HUMAN be a DRAGON?
ii) Voice sounds different! When Wrathion speaks in dragon-form his voice has a very heavy resonance over it. It's meant to indicate like, big echoey chest and also heavy magic I guess? I dunno.
iii) Can dragons shapeshift in your canon? If they can't, why would this one be able to!

Reasons to work it out:

i) Anduin blatantly riding and talking to this dragon with 0 fear.
ii) If you have a strong aptitude for recognising magical signatures, you might feel the same vibes off both shapes I guess?
iii) Both shapes have glowy red eyes!
iv) His gold earrings in human form translate to gold rings around his horns

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING?

The Beastmaster's nasty little creatures really, really, really want to ground him. The holder of the white raven will get their attention, so if you do that please keep hold of it and thus keep their attention off him while he lands to deliver water and pick up people! Alternatively, if you're bodyguarding raven-holders also take the time to pay attention when he lands and beat up creatures that head his way too!

Equally, take buckets of cure water off him and ferry them to into the volcano and give him empty ones to fill up? Boost up people who want to be evacuated onto his back? Reassure panicked local people he isn't going to eat them?

WHERE THEY’RE SPENDING THE FINALE: So believe it or not, it's not Xie Lian's first time fighting inside a volcano, and the last time, he literally punched through the volcano so it would be a very bad idea... but he hasn't punched anything in a while, so he'll be mostly fighting the Beastmaster and the beasties and also maybe trying to give the volcano team a possible joker?

ANY PLANS:
- punching a lot of beasts and the Beastmaster himself, and thus proving that actually there is a good reason why he was made a Martial God. Also, his individual curse is Wrath, and honestly, you don't want to be the one fighting an actually pissed off Xie Lian, like, he literally punches gods.
- Potentially, calling on Anurr to come help with the volcano because it turns out, he has an item that might allow him to do that.

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING? he might need some... actual patching up after the fight, mostly because the fact that his powers are weakened in the House of Ravens means his homegrown curses also are and so he will have realized he can actually die and he should probably be a bit more careful... but he's gone pretty used to just going all out when fighting so yeah, he'll be scratched up.

+ Viktor made friends with Ke-Waiar back when he first got here and will be enlisting Werewolf Help to both transport darts water/sea water and, under his direction, hastily construct some kind of irrigation system to better cycle dark water up to and through the volcano. He is probably also going to seek magic users to enchant the equipment so that it can keep cooling the dark water.
+ Otherwise he’s available for pretty much anything anyone wants to drag him into—he’s super conflicted about the Beastmaster (having spoken to the guy—MORE SOON), so he probably wants to keep his hands as clean of that as possible and let other people make the Hard Choices. Actually, also, he wants to stay away from fighting and murder, but tough for him. Bring him along anyway
+ idk hand him the raven at some point he’ll be fine.

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING?
Viktor is, like, the opposite of a combatant. Negative combat skills and also not good at moving quickly. It's very likely he will be Actively in Danger for a lot of this, so if anyone wants to be his buddy, he'll probably appreciate it.

I've had your intro post open for like, nearly 2 weeks continually meaning to tag but perpetually failing because I fucking suck basically. I KEEP TRYING TO THINK OF SOMETHING FUNNY ENOUGH and then I don't!

2 options:

1) I do it NOW and we can maybe keep it short, for the purposes of introducing them and letting Viktor what kind of... person... Wrathion is, but allowing for the log to be a focus later.
2) We skip it in favour of having them meet in whatever fucking chaos this is going to be

The downside to the second being he's mostly going to be flying around and it's a WILD way to meet, the upside being there's many comedy options in meeting a dragon in dragon shape who happens to be a person sometimes.

AND IN practical terms, once... gestures, THAT bit is out of the way Wrathion can help enchant equipment. Bring him someone who can cast ice magic and he can work that magic so it stays a permanent enchant. He just cannot case the cold magic HIMSELF. He's all heat only.

■ Five was 100% going to destroy the House of Ravens to lift his curse, so there is zero chance he won't be there. But plot twist, it gets lifted just by going in, so that's great for him-! Let's get all his siblings there ASAP and then immediately lose his ability to teleport. A good moment.
■ His greatest individual sin is Pride, and not acting on this is hard on a good day, so that's probably going to be a whole thing.
■ Very available otherwise! He thought about using his get out of jail free card with Anurr, but he'll be relieved if someone else takes that bullet. Also into killing the Beastmaster if anyone wants to have that conversation with him. Golden opportunity here.

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING? I'm sure the whole Pride debacle + being unable to teleport will be a bummer. He'll likely join any fighting going on, but if someone could give him status updates on his family he'd super appreciate it.

■ There are a few people in particular he's keeping an eye on, so if he sees them in danger, he's going after them.

ANY PLANS: Again, talented swordsman means he's going to do a stab or three. So he'll definitely help take out the priests and protect the white raven. If he's given a break from violence, he'll also be obligated to protect amd free the tributes.

- THIS HOUSE IS YOUR HOUSE: Kaneki will be at the House of ravens and will luckily be depowered and everyone will be thankful for it, but his curse Wrath will compel him to attack others in fits of rage and madness. These attacks may involve some biting, but HEY at least he will be like a normal human biting and now a ghoul at its 100% strength. If anyone wants to be nommed on or attacked or knock this boy out and put him in time-out PLEASE BE MY GUEST

- LET THERE BE BLOOD: Ken will be helping release sacrifices. He will also be fighting priests to take control of the House. Kaneki will have his powers so if anyone wants to see his tentacles (oh my), feel free to! However, Kaneki does not kill people, so don't expect that. He won't be under his curse's influence either, so he won't have fits of rage and his mood is somewhat under control (somewhat.)

- FIRE AND BRIMSTONE?: Kaneki has no magic to stop the eruption, so he will keep the bird safe. Shenanigans about this can ensue! He can either give a hand or someone can help him. As usual, tentacles will be involved in order to fight off the Beastmaster’s creatures. He will not kill humans, just the creatures.

I'm not involving Kaneki in any big act due to my hiatus last month/this month, therefor he will have a supportive role. Also no humans will be killed by him (not even hybrids), just incapacitated. kaneki's powers will be affected so while he has his tentacles, he won't be as good neither as resilient. I'm all okay for the chance to save him - or vice-versa - because Kaneki has zero sense of self-preservation bordering suicidal. proper content warnings will be made during the log!

NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING? I have failed immensely last month with Kaneki, I apologize for that. Hopefully I can get the groove on with this, and absolutely would love for him to meet new cr but also consolidate older cr.

All for the House of Ravens!

- Jon’s personal curse is a wrath curse.
- He will initially try to help with the tributes, if it makes logistical sense, but the main thing is:
- He will be involved with the raven/dais stuff. He actually has some small experience handling ravens, although it’s been a few years. (He was assigned some raven-care tasks early in his first year in the Night’s Watch.) When not handling the raven, he’ll be fighting, and fighting, and fighting. It’s likely that he’d hand it off specifically so that he can fight.
- He is in favor of not immediately killing the Beastmaster! They’ve had a conversation in which he found that they had some attitudes in common, and he’ll be mildly sympathetic to the motives, though not fully sympathetic - under most circumstances, he’d still be in favor of killing him. However…
- Jon and Dany are a very new couple. They think they are subtle, but they are wrong, and if your character lives with either of them, chances are that you’ve seen them sneaking around in the last few days before all of this starts to go down. Dany has made it known that she doesn’t want the Beastmaster to die; Jon is in favor of turning enemies to allies when possible, so he can get on board with her wishes.
- He will probably try (and fail) to talk to the Beastmaster.
- In theory, I plan to put up some open top levels.

After all of this, he’s getting a canon update by a few episodes!
