ALEM

Sound the drums, head on to war — seized citadel Alem has already been there for the lion's share of a year.

Under the Scavengers' guidance, the four sand worms the party captured gently graze underground corridors allowing the group to reach halfway up Mount Attevar. From there, they quickly infiltrate Alem through a bustling trade route.

Young King Deimar strikes a simple bargain: serve Alem in its bitter last days until inevitable downfall, and the citadel will grant access to its Beacon before the final evacuation is completed.

Sounds simple enough. Now, survive it.

Characters arrive today, with our first proper taste of event chaos due on 27-28 January. Get your character settled in, check out the setting and their assignment, and strike some CR:

ngl, first event and all, just testing things out proper. so! nothing specific, but looking into all the things and excited for it. pietro gets to chase some in-and-out pages and find out that they conduct a great deal of business in the mines and lake areas of the gut's bind. relevant ??? we'll find out.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:

should your character need to go from one place to another real quick, he will make that travel time shorten by a lot, so come say hi. he'll have a snack or two in his pocket that he could reluctantly let go of? information, etc.

newbie wail EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING. any friends/acquaintances of his sister (wanda), or other people with super powers (everyone i guess?!) so that he can think is neat. just let him make friends, promise he's cool.

really love the idea for pietro to run into wrathion to get his ear talked off, mostly in the sense that he is impatient about things. still! outfit modification would be cool, as well as getting a rundown of The Story So Far and all.

CHARACTER & CANON: Tess from The Last of Us (game)(let's not talk about the show rn)

THEIR ONE-LINE ELEVATOR PITCH: Local woman decides that being a ~~vulture~~ smuggler is the best way to survive the post-apocalypse fascist state, and she's totally okay with it, really.

THEIR ASSIGNED LEVEL & ROLE IN ALEM You will find her at the Crossing, dealing with merchant guilds to secure supplies (her specialty!) and maps, engaging with her favourite pastime (gossip, but this time for pleasure), pitting people against each other, and investigating some funky wounds? She also wants the gossip on this.

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: If someone is rude to her she may just shoot them, because she is totally fine writing cheques she can't cash. She'll figure it out later!

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RATHAKKU, DON'T THEY? While she does VERY MUCH love to watch a big strong man torture someone on her behalf, this guy looks like he smells. But she can respect his hustle, kinda. If the people of Alem don't want to die, maybe they should step it up? Just a thought.

PLOTS AND PLANS:
Oh my god she's new.
- She's had a very rough time lately and came in with some pretty gnarly injuries, which she had Stephanivien carve out and cauterize. (Long story.) Feel free to have seen this lunatic pushing herself to the brink of collapse, at least until she slept in a snail shell for a while. Maybe you made her take a break!
- But actually, she should probably see someone about that.
- Tess is riding the high of what she sees as a pretty sweet deal back home –– she's going to get a shit ton of guns as payment for smuggling a child to a revolutionary group that plans to make a vaccine out of her bodily immunity. Surely nothing will go wrong. As a result, she's eager to help out and do whatever it takes to get home to her prize; she's pumped to jump in.
- Guess who has spent the bulk of the past few years living in a walled city living under near-constant siege by zombies? This gal. I would love to have her poke around with the undead, if anyone has any openings, but on the same token, she's going to want to make herself right at home.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:
- Someone who isn't afraid of taking risks. Need someone for something risky, and Tess is there (as long as she feels compensated, but even getting opportunities opened up is enough for her.)
- A drinking buddy. Work hard, play hard.
- A push. Tess may be tough, but she's encouraging. Let's do this thing.

CR YOU WANT:
- Tess isn't incapable of hard work, but she definitely loves having people do stuff for her, whether she's bribing them, charming them or bullying them into doing it. Tag along for something.
- Tess gave up on Giving A Shit about anything that doesn't benefit her a long time ago, but has recently started to entertain the idea that there is a possibility of some good being done in the world. I'd love for her to get to know some idealists and reconnect with that side more.
- Apologies to anyone more visibly non-human than having funky ears or something but she will probably be unfriendly. Anyone/anything that eats human flesh... she'll tend towards being outright dehumanizing. If you want negative CR, this is your girl.

Would you want to risk death while dressed poorly? He thinks not.

The great thing about Wrathion is, he's an MMO NPC. He can just keep monologuing while you pace waiting for it to end! Adventurers are always impatient, he's used to it.

I'm very much on board for tankman Strange having to magic-wrestle an undead dragon, this is exactly the kind of thing he would love to literally never have to do and yet here he is, capable and unenthused. He's got that helpless heroism locked in so points to eyes points to the skies let's have a fun time keeping Irenia from freezing everybody and ourselves to death, team!

You better believe this man will be doing his job. Fellow South Towerers, let's go!

You also better believe he will not be standing on that tower 24 hrs a day so people elsewhere, let's also go!

He'll offer himself out on magical loan for people in need of his help, mostly with keeping warm and moving around the citadel safely/secretly.

Can possibly also be found surreptitiously stealing things from merchants for people who need them and can't afford the prices, you just never know.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:

A great many spells. Truly, too many. Too many spells. If you need a rescue in a pinch, or a big area cleared, chances are he's got you.

Instant travel via portal. To keep this interesting his portal spell will have certain limits, but when open anyone can travel through his portals! He'll make himself pretty available for playing taxi for important journeys provided he isn't urgently required at the dragon relocation station.

The Cloak of Levitation. It's a flying cloak! If it likes you, it can and will catch you when you fall.

Honestly just so much magic.

A terrifying (usually closed) third eye & a handy amulet that can both help him to see supernatural nonsense. They may not actually be of any use regarding the supernatural mysteries here, but if it comes up he may offer to be the UV light to your crime scene.

Technically a doctor so... in a pinch... he can help you provided the help doesn't require too much precision

THEIR ONE-LINE ELEVATOR PITCH: Tiny unhinged ex-time assassin gets no respect.

THEIR ASSIGNED LEVEL & ROLE IN ALEM Five is in the Gut's Bind for recon and he'll do a great job with it

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: He's a Hargreeves. To recap: he's getting separated from his sister yet again, recently found out the future is fucked, has a little mirror piece inside him that absorbs anguish, and he's been living off magic candle fumes and alcohol for the past two months. It's probably fine.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RAKKATHU, DON'T THEY? If it's not a mannequin he's not interested.

PLOTS AND PLANS: Nothing too specific! Very fine with taking this setting and running with it if you want to have some horrible times to bond over later. Five is already naturally paranoid and half-insane going in, so it doesn't take much. Also good for coming up with great plans that involve extreme solutions, he's at this point.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: Five is intelligent and resourceful, and a trained killer, who can teleport and has a high tolerance for suffering. He's also very small and he's aware of this, just try to keep him out of places. There's little he can't get into that isn't magically warding him out. (And FYI he has two magic body parts in his possession that can summon Anurr and a kraken respectively and everyone has always been fine about this.)

CR YOU WANT: Positive and negative CR is always welcome, he's a wildcard. Always interested in intellectuals, conspiracy-folks, anyone involved with time travel, the violent-prone, the pragmatic, people who can remind him that he's a person (aka an old man in a child's body) with limits, and anyone he can order around. (OR THE EXACT OPPOSITE of any of the above, challenge him.) He has opinions and everyone should listen more than they do. His is a special friendship.

THEIR ASSIGNED LEVEL & ROLE IN ALEM The Keep! This gal is a member of Uncle Thyvault's entourage, and she's very interested in the politics. (And frankly, eager to prove herself useful given she will never develop any Action Girl skills. Really! Look at her try to move a car.)

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY:
If she feels that Deimar is legitimately the better pick, she is going to give Uncle Thyvault the dressing down of a lifetime.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RATHAKKU, DON'T THEY? She only has eyes for one man and that's Jimmy McGill, Esq. But in an alternate universe where Jimmy did not exist, Rathakku would have to look good in flip flops and do a really good Louisiana bayou accent (for comedy purposes) to get her attention.

- Kim is going to come up with some court persona for this; it's not going to be particularly flashy, but it's hard being Kim Wexler, Attorney, in this wild place, so she's now Hildy Johnson, Reporter, interested in writing entire tomes about Uncle Thyvault's life. It's for the biography, you see.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:
- Legal advice. Take it home with you, sort out your lives, idk.
- Shenanigans. Kim can talk her way out of bad situations pretty consistently; if you're in trouble and need someone to get you out, she's your girl.
- Alternately: if you need to walk INTO trouble, she's a great distraction and more than happy to get you where you need to go.

CR YOU WANT:
- Friends. She is bad at friends back home, it's basically just her and her husband and work, and it'd be nice to build her a solid little group of friendships.
