ALEM

Sound the drums, head on to war — seized citadel Alem has already been there for the lion's share of a year.

Under the Scavengers' guidance, the four sand worms the party captured gently graze underground corridors allowing the group to reach halfway up Mount Attevar. From there, they quickly infiltrate Alem through a bustling trade route.

Young King Deimar strikes a simple bargain: serve Alem in its bitter last days until inevitable downfall, and the citadel will grant access to its Beacon before the final evacuation is completed.

Sounds simple enough. Now, survive it.

Characters arrive today, with our first proper taste of event chaos due on 27-28 January. Get your character settled in, check out the setting and their assignment, and strike some CR:

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: Excessive nosiness, excessive confidence, potentially excessive fixation on Irena later, potentially just a total temper tantrum.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RAKKATHU, DON'T THEY? Absolutely not.

PLOTS AND PLANS:

I do want Wrathion to go over the edge at some point this arc, as I've reigned in his more intense behaviours so far. I feel as if he should absolutely try to do something all on his own and suffer regret. Maybe some time at the end of the arc he can try to 1v1 Irena, or maybe he can over meddle and misjudge something in a critical way. IDK, open to ideas, but for the basic part I'm sure he'll be suckered in by handsome, frail royal who only wants peace. What's up with humans being so fragile, and why do people have to remind him? Thanks, he hates it.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:

- For new characters, Wrathion has been here long enough to be able to fill in a lot of stuff going on and good (bad) news: he LOVES to talk! He can tell you about their undead adventures and the Merchant.
- Wrathion is a dragon, and thus a natural user of magic and he loves to talk about magic. If you want to talk shop about magical things he is game. He's keeping the dragon bit on the down low, though, because he's low on trust. You gotta build up a good reputation with him to get that!
- Wrathion has a tailoring kit, if you need an emergency outfit modification!
- Wrathion is also an enchanter/crafter in general, if you need something done.
- If you have a young character who is always overlooked for their age, I can guarantee Wrathion will just treat them like a short adult!
- If you need someone to sit in a corner and complain with, and judge people's outfits with, and to discuss how nobody is as smart as you are: as long as you include him he's down

CR YOU WANT:

- Friends! Wrathion is naturally very aloof, he will absolutely die before admitting weakness. People who are patient enough to penetrate the aloof veneer will find he changes tactic and will instead die before letting anyone touch you.
- Frenemies! I do enjoy bickering CR, if you want to try and convince him you are right about things that he very clearly thinks you are wrong about
- Enablers! Do you think everyone is being too cautious? Do you think we all need to do reckless things to survive? Let us plan!

PLOTS AND PLANS: Nothing concrete as of yet, but she's not gonna like Rakkathu. Also, them intrusive voices look like a potential beast mode trigger. 8D Always fun.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: Questionably alimentation and motivational speeches, grumpy mom friend energy, hair of holding, a great (?) time! She can also brew potions and will repurpose failed potion experiments as explosives.

THEIR ONE-LINE ELEVATOR PITCH: Muted live stream of an exorcist's soul expiring, now with 300% more Righteousness and a deeply mistaken belief that slaughter is, nine times out of 10, the answer.

THEIR ASSIGNED LEVEL & ROLE IN ALEM investigating the Reaper, largely in the Gut's Bind and the Wards. I can move in conflict areas too, if you need a last-resort tank!

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: people are playing at commerce and politics, while there are the starving poor in the basement, he's guaranteed to pull a sword on someone he shouldn't in a fit of frustration. Just set your timer.

PLOTS AND PLANS:

✔ Investigating the Reaper: I'm crossing fingers to be fully available to sink my teeth into this and have him reach out for Anything Suspicious people are noticing, because 'sudden murders' with a pattern aren't typically the Mother Nature brand. Would anyone like to divide & conquer investigation leads and be cop buddies?

✔ ...sniffing around the Seal room of the Gut's Bind. He would try to add his own purification reinforcements to actual hell, if given the chance.

✔ Is your character a sad, lonely, deteriorating but inevitably main-character-syndrome attractive necromancer/undead? And they're falling under Rakkathu's control? Lan Wangji is here to play you a soothing but quickly repetitive cleansing song to help ease you back to yourself. Forever. The one song. Looped.

✔ Taking a look at this blood snow, because, say it with him, wtf.

✔ Can... we abduct Cle-Florens out of this situation, can we please conspire to take twelve-year-old out before she's effectively sacrificed?

✔ This is more of a personal achievement, but I need to yeet him off a tower or cliff, it just feels right in this setting.

► Here if anyone needs someone to snap them out of intrusive thoughts caused by the underground levels!

► ...or get them out of an attack, riot or overall bind. Just... be prepared he might take the murder detour.

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: No one said she HAS to stay injury free. If she got hurt in the middle of a Commotion, she'd probably pretend she's fine as long as she can. We love drama in this house.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RAKKATHU, DON'T THEY? HARD PASS

PLOTS AND PLANS: So, I actually am really bad at plotting out action, but I always want to be involved. I very much want to do something to fuck her up because she's gotten SUPER lucky in the past, mostly because Wangi was there, ngl. I do want her to be useful too though, so if she can get at least be a little useful, that'd be great. She'll be pretty serious about getting supplies because she wants everyone to be okay.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: Clara has a limited number of rose petals that can turn her invisible for 30 minutes. Just long enough to slip in and out of somewhere or grab something stealthily.

CR YOU WANT: She has a good gaggle of friends, but she could always use more. Friends who like books/telling stories because she misses BOOKS. She has a certain amount of wanderlust, so curious friends and people who encourage her to go on questionable adventures would be A+.

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: Excuse you, she is a professional.

PLOTS AND PLANS: Nothing specific yet but I'm excited for everything. I definitely want Yelena to explore the citadel so Adventures Around Alem will be happening. She'll have a front row seat for collecting information which should be useful for plotting.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: She is well-armed and well-positioned so she can offer protection and eventually information. Or just a cool friend.

CR YOU WANT: I definitely want her to meet all the new people from her world, whether she knows they have that in common or not. And new people from other worlds! I'd also love to further existing CR.

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: Because she's a jinx!

PLOTS AND PLANS: She'll definitely be checking out the forges and making all kinds of gadgets. Gadgets that explode. I'm envisioning her making something like her butterfly bombs to fight the harpies.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: She might be willing to make something for your character under the right circumstances or for a good trade.

CR YOU WANT: (Note: Jinx can suffer from psychosis/hallucinations - if anyone would prefer this not be brought up when tagging with her, I have an opt-out form in her permissions post.) Since Jinx is new, I'm going to say anything/everything here. Honestly it's hard to know what will be positive or negative CR when it comes to her so let's just do it all!

THEIR ASSIGNED LEVEL & ROLE IN ALEM The Crossing: Dealing with merchant guilds to secure supplies and maps to assist with the escape, helping prepare war envoys, courier to deliver messages to Rathakku.

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: Too curious, distracted easily, talking too much, insulting Rathakku.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RAKKATHU, DON'T THEY? Your classic enemies to lovers romance.

PLOTS AND PLANS:

► He would love for someone to watch him be really clever making deals with merchants, pls tell him he's doing a great job. But in all seriousness, super down to plot out stuff with anyone who wants to help with securing supplies and the all-important maps.

► Preparing war envoys...this can only go super well!

► I anticipate the delivering of messages to Rathakku being especially um, interesting to say the least. Please save him from himself, he has no fear lol.

► Everything else! The Doctor will usually try to be anywhere/everywhere so there are no limits here.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER:
► He has a protective shield that can freeze an attacker in place for 10 seconds (can only use it once per day, but handy in a tricky situation!)
► Will offer himself up as distraction/protection willingly in sticky situations
► The Doctor's physiology is unique so he can take an intense beating and recover waaaay better than humans, so when he says he can be a shield and you shouldn't follow him, he really means this (nobody listens to him though!). He also has heightened senses (hearing, smell, taste) so he's good investigating things
► Persistent optimism
► ...equally, blunt realism at times (of the "everything's going to be fine but I'm definitely lying" variety)
► Probably has some provisions in his pockets (cake, carrots, ring pops, you never know)

WHY THEY'RE GOING TO MESS EVERYTHING UP, REALLY: Well, she did liberate Marath in the desert before coming here, so honestly everything is on the table.

THEY'VE SECRETLY GOT A THING FOR RAKKATHU, DON'T THEY? Nope! Vataz could get it, though. Galatea could step on her. Etc.

PLOTS AND PLANS: Fending off harpies at 150m above ground, up in the mountain. Flinging hexes, curses and defensive spells out in equal measure. Could Apparate to another tower, but there's a risk of accidentally missing by 1m and plummeting to the ground so oops better not. Defense, defense, defense!

Further shenanigans are always an option. @ me for shenanigans.

WHAT THEY CAN OFFER: Violence. Magic, a dwindling supply of potions she hasn't restocked since before leaving Serthica, water that she can conjure via spell. A good distraction for harpies probably, look at all her hair.

Also her shiny new cloak that shows an illusion of flames when she moves, which I'm sure is going to be just great in the tower and not at all attract the enemy. (Also not that anyone asked but she will be serving Looks, thanks Wrathion.)

► Merrin will take her guard duties very seriously and be vigilant so fellow Tower peeps will be fair game for awkward/stilted conversation

► Has a lot of magical abilities through the Force, such as telekinesis, teleportation, being able to shift/manipulate the ground, can cloak people and/or objects, and she can wield magickal ichor as both a weapon and defense.

CR YOU WANT:
► Merrin grew up isolated and mostly alone after her fellow Nightsisters were destroyed by General Grievous, so she is still learning and fumbling her way through social interactions. Naturally, any kind of weird/awkward CR is a given and I'm up for anything there!
