To keep things tidy, everyone’s welcome to ask general event questions or specific test-drive meme ones, and to chatter about the fate of the Imperious. Remember: actions have consequences, and sinking the boat too close to the port could congest naval traffic for the foreseeable future.

Okay! The mermaids... coexisted with that particular mirror at one point in time. It would be foolish to say they owned it. They might insist otherwise.

OH and back to things Xunxian WOULD try, from somewhere safe though. Could he communicate with the mermaids, undead though they may be? If so, how partial...

Has he ever been canonically shown able to communicate with humanoid (partly animal) creatures, or with other magical entities, or has this not really come up?

It hasn't come up, there are no actual magical entities that are not human appearing in the show. ... other than one thing that gets into people but that one communicates in plain speech so.

I'm going to say... yes, but imperfectly. So either sometimes they don't 'vibe' with him linguistically, or maybe he doesn't understand them 100%.
