In an effort to tighten up on AC requirements a bit, this is the last month when characters with two consecutive strikes can be reclaimed. ■ Our resident Eleven player has put up a COMMUNAL DRAGON RESCUE LOG, if you want to party and play out the beast smuggling until 8-9 October. Are there ways to ensure a soul is either:
a. moved on — where?
b. eradicated completely — yes, you can consume or transform it into another type of energy
c. contained in a state of stasis — the easiest way to do this would be to force it into a body, which is what souls seem prone to 'want' to inhabit anyway. Necromancers take advantage of that affinity between soul and matter when resurrecting.
d. are they pulled some direction and/or attracted to certain locations and/or people — the soul is the energy, absent any cognition. The spirit is a different conversation. Some spirits that harboured great trauma, emotional feeling (love, resent) or any kind of magical connection might drift back around certain people or locations. Necromancers like to enslave them, when they catch them (see the grumpy ghost house).

Is there much he can find on how to free/unbind enslaved spirits, or to charm people to not have their spirits linger?

Spirits can be pacified, exorcised or used — in that sense, nothing dissimilar to what Wei Wuxian is already used to. The undead are the exception and difference: consider them a separate class, with subcategories. The guiding principle, as learned in Sa-Hareth, is 'an element that wishes to stay alive (and propagate).' You had the cold, for Anurr's forces. Hunger, for Unhalad's. In Taravast, you've had fire/burning so far.

Wei Wuxian would probably also be trying to suss out what causes personality retention versus how fast a number of the undead became creatures of only immediate instinct or being ordered by a greater power in that uh... living element (hunger, for example), compared to what he's seen now with the witches over time away from the tower, and with. Anurr. The best actor we have seen so far in the undead legions, being outside the "family" swallowing citadels.
Once he hears about the undercover illusioned undead it's even more--when is spirit retained with memory and personality, or are they all overwritten because of that one element keeping them alive and propagating... tbh feels like what he'll end up doing falls along the lines of investigating how to handle the curse of it, so I'm not expecting he's learning much anything new, just figuring out his direction myself.
Do the undead with that driving element need to be killed (right now at least) to break that "curse"?
Also to go back to the undead witches, can they be rigged with crystals or talismans that provide cooling to their, uh, skin. Cooling sensations... for the burns... cries

There's a guideline to how the dead retain their awareness or don't, but Wei Wuxian has only met one 'type' of undead with clear cognition so far (I'm excluding the dead Hermione and Anakin encounter because their 'cause', which I think is what you call 'curse,' hasn't been revealed yet). It will probably make more sense once he has more undead encounters!
If an undead is of the enslaved type (lacking real awareness), it's a kindness to kill them. They can be sometimes recovered if you expose them to one of the mirrors that absorbs negative energy/fear
or to Fivebut it's questionable whether that's doing them a kindness.Yes, you can rig the undead witches! They will probably be grateful, though unfortunately it will never fully soothe them. They're haunted by that pain, basically :(

I'm sad laughing over these witches being with their somewhat helpful talismans. SO SINCE Wangji is also big on talking to them, and I feel like I had asked what talking to them would provide back when he was getting his three to bring along out of the tower. Okay so. His question would be: what do you want to do, to them, as they regain more awareness.
Past that, his interest is also along the lines of what I asked about further... up this thread I think? Or elsewhere when it comes to severing potential spiritual... control... mechanisms... basically can you. Give these witches their own ability to control themselves to any extent, because sending them back to their sisters, sure, but he mostly doesn't like it from a tool perspective and everyone here has been tools.

The trouble with asking the witches anything is that they're very much in a haze of 'kill' and 'owwww.' So you're asking a complicated question, relative to their animal level of understanding.

Looks to Wangji with all this and gestures expansively. Do you see this. I'm not guessing they're getting extensive time to see if lessening the Ow factor and having the Kill Bessis factor be less immediately pressing will do anything to help with clarity from the witches, as in: they'll still be fairly at that animal level of understanding for a while, possibly forever? (Not sure on this last one, if time makes any difference.)
