Hi, everyone! Say goodbye to January blues, and hello to our last activity check & admin post.

A couple of key points:

■ The Story So Far has been updated with all the January developments & Hatthevar findings to date.

■ The February calendar is up!

Planning post for the Hatthevar: Part II log, due up over the weekend + relevant sign-ups o/

As January was the last AC round, characters were passed if they met the majority of activity requirements. Below is a list of characters for whom largely no AC was found last month:

activity list; )

If your character’s on the list, you can supply missing activity or reclaim them on scout’s honour that you’ll please join us for a last hurrah in February. If you think you won’t make it with us this month — thank you for all the fun times so far!

You can assume that any dropped or AC-swept characters are still with the party in Hatthevar until the end of the game.

Happy New Year, everyone! Wishing you all a lovely, bear-rific 2024! A bit of ground to cover this round, so:

AC & ADMIN

■ The calendar page has been updated!

■ Characters that were dropped or swept in December will be said to have stayed (briefly) behind at castle Netvor to help rehabilitate the forest.

Activity requirements are back in January! They were waived in December, unless you’d hiatused or failed AC in November.

Of those who had to present December AC, enough proofs couldn’t be found for:

Su Xunxian | Oh! My Emperor

Please holler if threads were missed, or you need to talk AC!

BEAUTY & THE BURNED

The party’s stay at the castle of Netvor stretches until 9 January, with plenty of architecture yet to burn down to a crisp. For those following the mystery:

…a summary of key findings so far!

Status on arrival: roughly 10 years ago, the cruel Netvor clan carried out a Red Hunt that decimated the nearby forest, until blood fully drenched the castle grounds. In retaliation, a witch cursed the remaining clan heir into a beast, turning his servants into fellow creatures or talking objects. This prince may break the curse by restoring the forest and its wildlife to old glory. The village of Panna that serves the castle is keen on neither the Netvor clan, nor the witch — while demonic wolves haunt the grounds, and the prince’s beloved, Julien, yearns for a day when the curse lifts.

What the party has learned arrival:
■ The witch took ’lives and likenesses.’

■ The witch is a man.

■ The prince did not attend the Red Hunt, but works assiduously to make amends with the forest.

■ It is unclear what happened with the remaining members of the clan Netvor.

■ Castle servants are wary of Julien, who is enamoured and possessive of the prince.

■ Julien is lonely and owns few possessions. He appears resolute to convince the prince to fulfil his end of the curse.

■ The hunting cabins where the demonic wolves hide and the children of Panna village leave cooked food and warm clothes also bear the scent of adult humans.

You can chat about the mystery or next steps, or go rogue to make everything better/worse for the castle — but please mind the deadline!

ARC VIII: EPHES | BADGES

You know the ropes! Grab and customise your badge wallet and fill it up with any badges from the general or Arc-specific set that think match your character’s experiences to date! This is all 100% just for OOC fun.

ARC IX: HATTHEVAR

Arc IX: Hatthevar will be set in a milling city of ghosts, spirit and the dead. Notably, not one of undead.

■ So far, the plot of Hatthevar is planned to include exploration, combat, investigation, care/nurture and potentially execution. To help with customization, check in by 23:59 GMT on 7 January with what you think you’d like your character involved in! You can still throw them into anything afterward, this just helps with task customisation and mod planning!

■ Unlike previous mysteries, this one will have more to do with figuring out how to prevent something... for a change!

■ By the end of Arc IX, characters will have the additional options to retain their memories of Akhuras when they travel back to their home worlds, or to stay behind in Akhuras and continue their adventures.

■ Matthias’… body… parts connected to dark water and discovered by the party, along with any dark mirror shards collected along the way will prove useful now. If your character has one such item, but you think you’ll struggle with availability in Jan/Feb, shout, and we’ll reassign it!

Wish fount: drop a line by 23:59 GMT on 6 January if there’s a particular event, setting or prop/artefact you’ve always wanted to play with (anything from ‘a Rubik cube!’ to ‘we just haven’t burned enough libraries’) — you’re unfortunately not guaranteed it’ll happen, but best effort will be made!

■ During the first event log of Hatthevar, the party will be able to run into dead characters from their home world. Anyone — whether an existing [community profile] eastbound player or just a visiting one — can play these characters for one-off encounters confined to a specific area of Hatthevar on the log.

The requirements will be:
— to show up in Hatthevar, dead characters must either have previously been in Akhuras or be from canons currently represented in the game

— the character must be dead by the time the canon ends (dead and revived still counts)

— no doubles of existing characters

Happy New Year! Wishing everyone a delightful, lucky, healthy and cheerful 2023!

Short and sweet on the admin update this round:

December was AC-free, but we return to regular activity requirements for January.

UPDATED: Story So Far with the last Arc IV + January calendar

■ The sand worms, desert & definitely-not-Sarlacc pit event of 6 January will double as a test drive meme... and an IC chance to get some valuable leverage, going into Arc V. Apps follow on 16-21 January — this time, they'll be open for anyone who has an invite or participates in the test drive meme.

Because of the tighter scheduled span of Arc V, this will probably be the only app cycle we hold until we’ve exited the Siege.

Speaking of...

ARC V: THE SIEGE

...is going to play out a little bit differently, over six to eight weeks. You’ll get full details later in the month, but a ticking countdown and territorial distribution across levels means small teams will have to take on a variety of mini-assignments against a backdrop of fusillades, ramming, curses and shattering defences. All hands on deck!

Not at all binding, but to get a sense of areas at interest — factor in your own OOC enthusiasm, and check in each of your characters at one of the relevant links below by 23:59 GMT on 22 January, if you play a character who:

■ Would manage to broker a cutthroat deal with ruthless passing merchants

■ Can & would play bodyguard to a king/prince

■ Is a medic, and wouldn’t mind spying on a patient

■ Would investigate supernatural murders at potential risk to oneself

■ Would stay behind to bitter end to hold up swarmed defences, to bide other people time to flee.

■ Can & would get actively involved in manipulating succession games, if needed last-minute.

■ Would try to run, in a cowardly but sensible manner.

■ Would go into the depths of local hell (note: this option is the most dangerous out of all of them.)

To confirm, this is just to give an indication of where to position your character and what to call on them for. You are not obliged to accept the mission just because you checked in here. It also doesn’t mean you cannot play something you didn’t check in for, later.

Separately, if you don’t mind providing some additional details, to help prep your character for the Siege...

Many thanks!

Good day to August — rooting for all of you to please not melt with the latest heatwave spells!

ACTIVITY CHECK

AC requirements were waived last month, but we are back on track for August. As a refresher, to pass them, please produce:
■ One network post OR

■ Five log comments across up to two threads OR

■ 10 network-style comments

Please don’t forget to use your character tags when comment into posts or logs, to help find your activity proofs — thank you!

ADMIN

UPDATED: the August calendar.

■ Newcomers who opted for the plot-heavier intro can gang up in the Mouse House. That’s up and ready for you.

■ A broader post begging a tiny bit of information for you to help prepare roles and assignments for Arc IV: Serthica will be up over the next few days. Ahead of that, since we haven’t had one of these in a while — can folks please check in on the fully screened mod contact post if you have any deep phobias?

This is just to help inform what monster types and pictures to try to avoid in future plotting. It won’t always be possible to avoid every trigger, but can’t hurt to make best effort. Thanks!

All hail, spring is over — happy June! A bit of admin with your day:

ACTIVITY CHECK

To pass activity requirements, you need to have produced one of: 1 network post or 5 log comments or 10 network/text-style comments in the month of check. Activity can be carried out in game communities or in character inboxes.

In May, insufficient activity was found for:

Cato | [personal profile] unpurposed
Delilah | [personal profile] alterareRECLAIMED
Slick | [personal profile] sergeant_slick — swept as a result of two consecutive strikes.

Drop a line by 23:59 on 5 June to reclaim a character, or if they have activity that wasn't appropriately recorded.

ADMIN & ARC IV

By a wide vote margin, the people have spoken, and our Arc IV destination is A Tale of Two Cities — expect steampunk, otherness, very strange architecture, a diplomatic school, and two cities intermittently occupying the same structures, their residents accusing each other of being... inhuman.

■ Ahead of that, the group sets out on a roughly six-week pirate journey at sea, ICly announced by our very own Sumeragi Subaru.

■ Sea sickness brews, feeding for Kaneki Ken and balance for Viktor's limp are already accounted for — but please holler if your character also needs accommodations at sea.

■ To celebrate the very first time the party leaves an Arc location in a better state than they found it, please check out individual character gifts. An attempt was made to make these fun, unique and a memento of some plot involvement, but if you're not having fun with your character's gift, give a shout!

■ Our upcoming event, due live on 3 June, doubles as a test drive meme (TDM). It will be open publicly, and anyone who plays on the TDM will not require an invite during the 10-17 June application session. Apps will once again briefly open in late July, but will be invite-only at the time.

UPDATED: the June calendar, alongside the Story So far summary of Arc III and the Undead Lieges write-up with the latest reveals.

ARC III BADGES

They're here, have no fear! If you've never played this: you can grab a wallet and cram it with general mood badges or Arc-specific ones. This is purely for fun, and you can pick whatever badges you think describe the trolling adventures your character got up to in Arc III.

ACTIVITY CHECK

Hello one, hello all, welcome to July! Activity in your neck of the woods is handled by modly hands, and you do not need to show activity proofs unless you are on the following list. Please don't forget to use character tags on posts/logs you tag into — it helps stalk find your activity!

Activity requirements are one of the following during the month:
a network post
OR 10 text/network-style comments across at most two threads
OR five log comments across at most two threads

In June, I couldn't find sufficient activity for:

Rachel Silva | [personal profile] thehoneybadgerRECLAIMED
Wen Qing | [personal profile] silverneedlesRECLAIMED

If there was sufficient activity for these characters, let me know below until 5 July ! Alternatively: if this is your first activity check (AC) failure, you can reclaim the character here, take a strike and meet regular game requirements in July.

If this is your second time missing AC, but you still want to stay in the game, please PM @ [personal profile] groundrules to talk things out.

...AND OTHER ADMIN

  • Characters can now use shiny, shiny personal inboxes. To start, inbox threads will count for AC — we can revisit this later.

  • Please fill out the below with links to your inbox post and permission post, if you have one, when you have a second! This info will be added to your character Taken List entry and facilitate checking your activity. If you need custom codes, voilà.

  • The July calendar is up — a mid-month update will fill in the other July events.

  • The Test Drive Meme That Was Promised: ...stays on the table! Currently working out the kinks, but it is likeliest to land 2H July or early August.

  • Since you folks seem to love them, there is now a tag for catch-all logs. With great tag power comes great responsibility.

  • ICYMI: we now have a list of all the notable items/creatures with the party and a loose summary of the story so far.

    Hi everyone — some updates!

    ACTIVITY CHECK — M A Y

I stalkerishly track monthly activity on my side, so you do not need to produce AC proofs unless you are on the list below! Gentle reminder to please use character tags on posts/logs you thread into. Holler if you're missing tags for either [community profile] eastbound or [community profile] westwhere!

    a c t i v i t y | MAY  )

    THE PLOT... VAGUELY THICKENED

The June calendar now walks among us! It's skin and bones, as we approach the end of Arc I and ensuing developments will depend extensively on character actions. There will likely be a second calendar update once we decide on the next Arc.

Onward Arcs: the plan is to have a transitional voyage Arc before the next eastern settlement. This will be a self-contained, plot-light and lower-stakes segment of around four weeks. Characters can tackle exploration or quests, but won't content with an overarching mystery.

The transitional period will be a package deal with the Arc II destination. The Merchant will ICly inform characters of two destination options, each with their merits. An OOC post around 15 June will outline further information for players, largely outlining what kind of ambiance each location lends itself to. As of now, we are looking at an option that's more political, and another that's more classical adventure. Characters can vote between 15-20 June on their upcoming destination, along with what possessions and NPCs they bring along.

    APPS & TEST DRIVES

We transitioned to perma-open applications until we hit 35 characters, since large app cycle newbie batches are harder to accommodate plot-wise.

Upside: you can app further characters or invite people at any point! Con: we wouldn't host regular test drive memes. If this is a feature you want periodically — whether for you or for others — let me know, please! Transitional Arcs probably fit test drive memes better, given their lower plot stakes, so I can make magic happen.

Hi folks! A bit of admin, just shy of May the Fourth being with us —

    i. No April activity check this round for characters accepted during the late March / early April cycle. Psssst. That's all of you.

ii. Applications open on 00:01 GMT @ 3 May, lasting until 23:59 GMT @ 9 May. They will be handled on a rolling basis.

iii. Have a look at the character interest list, and consider dropping your name in, if you're pretty sure you want to app something — like test driving, this is not mandatory, but helps me figure out how many applications to expect in.

iv. A wild May calendar has appeared! The April schedule has been archived here. Sign-ups for the world's worst meeting drinking game are here!

We're trying posting a full-month calendar again, but we might move to two instalments covering 1h and 2h of the month, if that suits us better in the end. Let's see.

You may now all return to your regular plotting schedules.
