Happy holidays if you are celebrating any in this period, folks. Well done on putting another challenging year behind!

There is no December activity requirement, minus Xue Yang’s, so there will be no AC post on 1 January. Instead, the monthly calendar and plot notes will go up around 3 January, detailing the upcoming journey Arc. Rolling apps remain open until 23:59 GMT tonight, but will close until 2 January.

As an Eastbound gift — your Taravast badges are ready.

For newcomers: badges are a purely optional and OOC “achievement of shame unlocked” sticker you can add to your character’s collectibles. It’s entirely up to you which and how many badges you want to claim for your character. You can find a wallet code to hold your badges, along with general mood & previous Arc ones archived here.

Hello, hello! Some admin notes and a few updates, based on recent rolls & developments, to keep everyone nicely busy!

EVENT & TEST DRIVE

Taravast's coup event will kick off on 2 December and will also serve as our test drive. Like last time, test drive participants can app without an invite over the next three weeks ( until 21 December ). As a heads up, applications won't be judged over 24 December - 2 January.

ARC II WRAP & ARC III

A series of votes on the fate of Taravast, the beacon and our ensuing Arc destination will take place over 5-12 December. As with Arc II, we'll have a four-six week 'travel' interlude to reach the setting of Arc III. The events of the journey will feed into the Arc III plotline.

THE BEAR

...will still visit before we leave Taravast.

THE BUBBLING WAIT
■ Commoners repeatedly come to the Palace of the Doxe to beg Doxe Bonaccorso Spina's support to restore their districts from recent undead damage. They are turned away: Bonaccorso has once again taken ill, and the Taravast coffers are tight. Careful in the great outdoors — some furious petitioners throw rocks and minor fire spells at windows and into the gardens.

■ To contain the unrest, don Bonaccorso orders a tight curfew ( 06:00 to 20:00 ), bans the liberal use of sorcery or the display of weapons, and prohibits groups of more than five people.

Urged to action by Alina Starkov, Macaluso Spina seeks an audience with Bonaccorso on 27 November. By midday, word spreads that Macaluso has been placed under house arrest in his quarters and awaits trial for allegedly attempting to assassinate his grandfather.

Macaluso's household is broken up. Vannozza Spina offers the hospitality of her palace wing to her cousin's supporters for ten days while they make arrangements to depart Taravast.

■ In this period, characters assigned to Macaluso have their stipends reduced and receive unfriendly treatment at court. Guards often shove roughen them up in corridors. It's safest now to seek short-term accommodations in the rooms of Vannozza's supporters.

■ With their champion Macaluso detained, the Bessis sorceresses retreat from the Palace. Alone, the increasingly arrogant witches of Attaryl deliver the lady Vannozza for extended and highly guarded visits to don Bonaccorso's quarters. They also tally characters and question them about their backgrounds and magical abilities.

THE HUNTRESS


Hello, hello — welcome to Spooktober! Our latest event has just gone up, and you’ll hopefully have 'fun' with it. It lasts between 23 October and 10 November, and you can tag into that post or make your own logs/posts. Back or forward date as much as you need.

Because this event is dragging into the start of November, next month’s plot rolls won’t be available until somewhere around the 11-13 November period.

LOCK & KEY

The palace of the Doxe enters lockdown over 14-18 October, with Bonaccorso said to have taken sick.

■ A curfew is imposed between 21:00 and 10:00. Guards demand solid reasons to allow characters out of their quarters.

■ You can bypass these measures by escalating balconies or rooftops, dressing up as servants, inventing convincing emergencies or sleeping in other Taravast districts during the lockdown.

THE MAN, HIS FLESH, HIS BONES
Talk stokes that Bonaccorso may have been poisoned or wounded. All of his petitioners are turned away. Donna Vannozza secludes herself, ostensibly in prayer. A distraught, anxious Macaluso seeks comfort from his foreign suitors.

✘ Groups of healers characters can spy on are milling throughout the palace.

✘ As rumours spread, Taravast's people adjourn in front of the palace to offer flowers and prayers for the Doxe's health. Public gestures now could go a long way, politically.

Bonaccorso's wing of the palace is heavily guarded, but those who infiltrate it at night might hear hollow, unidentifiable, senseless screams. No dead or wounded are reported, come morning. None of the wing servants has heard a thing, and many appear misty-eyed, as if in a haze.

✘ By 19 October, Bonaccorso re-emerges, frail but convalescing. The lockdown lifts.

DRAGON DERBY

The people have spoken: the dragon lives to traumatise hapless innocents another day. You can make your own logs or network posts, or play this out in the latest event log until 9 October.

CURRENT STATUS
The dragon is running rampant in the river moat surrounding the Bessis tower. The Bessis spire is located beside a twin Attaryl tower in the Artes Mundi, bordered by the necromantic district (north), the healing one (west), residential areas (east) and the banking halls (south) leading to the ports of Taravast’s city-side bay.

Outside: The highly agitated dragon's cold magic is slowly erecting an ice wall around the spire. It breathes cold and ice and can freeze characters. The creature sometimes bodily slams the tower. It is susceptible to fire.

Within the tower: the undead, panicked crowds, Bessis witches spewing fire indiscriminately, you.

VOTED OBJECTIVE: furtively smuggle and release the dragon.

INSTRUCTIONS GUIDE

Below are the conditions that have to be met to get this show on the road. You can pitch your own ideas HERE, volunteer your character to an existing plan, or split into groups.

Tranquilize & Resize | Soothe, sedate or distract the dragon. Probably best to hash this out over the network. Scale the dragon down to a portable size. Options: personal magic, coaxing or forcing cooperation from the Bessis or Attaryl witches on premise, investigating the Bessis halls for helpful artifacts, etc.

Deliveroo | Get the dragon to the ports. The fire-wielding witches of Bessis and Macaluso Spina’s sentries will give chase. Stay masked and choose your itinerary wisely. Diverting through the adjacent districts rather than heading straight to the ports could help lose them.

Ollie the dragon out | Steal a raft, boat or ambitious dingy and get the dragon very far out into the bay. Release and resize it, then run.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN



Poison-free and proud, characters can tap deeper into their espionage skills over the next two weeks to prepare for an inevitable infiltration, as Macaluso and Vannozza officially compete for electoral favour.

A log covering the intrusion will go up on 17-18 SEPTEMBER. (Parts of) that event will double as a test drive meme, and we might try incorporating the suggestion to consider tdm activity as a game invite this time. Feel free to leave your own plotting comment!

At player discretion, characters who were poisoned during Macaluso’s banquet can fully recover within 1-5 days of consuming their cure.

SUMMARY


The witches of Bessis promise their vote to whomever of Macaluso and Vannozza presents them the most extraordinary magical item at an upcoming celebration.

Macaluso asks help as he sets out to capture and enhance a water dragon as his offering.

■ Instead of participating in the competition, Vannozza deploys the party to ruin the draconic efforts and to inspect a recent mystery at the halls of the Bessis, hoping to blackmail the witches. An opportunity arises to steal a map from a visiting Bessis, which could help with infiltrating their headquarters later.

■ Characters can be volunteered for a RNG drawn encounter with Macaluso and Vannozza's grandfather, don Bonaccorso.

Characters can help with any of the quests below, irrespective of their team membership — just be discreet.

  • Most of the August calendar remains subject to update once Arc II has been set up, but you can find loose indications here. The calendar will be updated, likely next week.

  • The location setup for Arc II, “team” and identity assignments and a small event will go up 6-8 August. Thank you for everyone's help with assignments — now no longer taking input.

  • Some characters will receive individual quests/aftermath instructions, following on mod talks or events in Arc I and the Stairs of Sighs. At this time, they are Five, Archeval and Eleven. Two other characters are slated for optional quests based on Taravast’s setup — Zhou Zishu and Wen Qing. Their agendas haven’t been forgotten, and all that info will be laid out when we hit Taravast. Bear with me!

  • If there is a longer-term character arc that you want to work on and need some environmental or mod help with, hit up the player suggestions area!

  • Moving forward, the Story So Far page will (hopefully) be updated with summaries on a monthly basis, to help our newcomers.

  • Lastly, given the clue and plot-oriented nature of Eastbound, some folks have asked about a potential game Discord chat. While I’d be happy to set one up, I’m not currently in a place where I could actively moderate a chatroom — if you have thoughts on how we could go about making a non-mod-led one happen (or if you feel one is needed to begin with), happy to hear them!

    Hi, everyone! As we crawl to the end of the Stairs of Sighs and inch towards Arc II: Taravast, there is a tiny bit of mod prep work that you can lend me a hand with.

    As a brief reminder: Taravast will see the party publicly divided in two groups supporting the electoral claim of contenders to the citadel's leadership. Behind curtains, one faction will be actively backing one of the rivals, while the other will be sabotaging their competitor, to ensure a final result that gives the entire party access to an aged, but hopefully still operational beacon.

    Taravast is a much more lavish, magically inclined environment, and characters will be supplied loose alternative identities and some appropriate advantages and/or objectives based on them, throughout their stay.

    To help with the assignments, please fill out the below form by 00:01 on 1 August for each of your characters — thank you in advance!
